I was watching a show on the telly yesterday. Simply described it is adults answering questions from first to fifth grade. If they managed all the way it would be 10 questions + one extra. To their help they had “five” classmates that would be able to help them three times (copy, peek and save). Each classmate was only to participate on two questions. The sum of money was high compared to other game shows I have seen. Anyway the questions and the answers brought many musings to my mind. Is it really so that we as adults losses so much knowledge that we can’t answer the questions that 10 year olds don’t have a problem with? Had producers simply picked out “poor examples” of adults? Does the mind blank out that much? There was a woman who couldn’t tell which continent also was a country. She answered North America. Another one didn’t know which country lays about USA. I do admit there were some questions that were hard like the geology one. There also a math question that got the best out of me but that I think was mostly because I’m 100% sure of how long a feet or a yard is. The kids were really good. Their answers were unveiled and 98% of the questions all the kids gave the correct answer.
So are we smart as a fifth grader or would we have to admit defeat?

Hi Barkley lady :) It's heathisforme from the valley. I just discovered your blog and thought I'd leave a comment. Happy New Year's to you!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I am not sure how well I would do. I am okay with some subjects but numbers and I never did get along. My biggest problem these days is my memory! I may have known the answers once, but can I recall them now? I wonder.
